Flourescein Angiography (FA)
Fluorescein angiography (fluorescein - the type of dye that is used; angiogram - a study of
the blood vessels) is an extremely valuable test that provides information about the
circulatory system of the back of the eye not attainable with a routine examination. FAs
are useful for evaluating many eye diseases that affect the retina.
IndoCyanine Green angiography (ICG)
ICG angiography uses IndoCyanine Green dye which fluoresces in the infrared (non-visible)
light. These wavelengths have the ability to penetrate the retinal layers making the
circulation in deeper layers, particularly the choroid, visible when photographed with an
infrared sensitive camera. The images from the special camera are then digitized and stored
in a computer.
Ophthalmoscopy
An ophthalmoscope is an instrument used to examine the retina and vitreous. Ophthalmoscopy
requires dilating the pupils with drops to give the doctor the best view inside the eye.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is a non-contact, noninvasive imaging technique used
to obtain high resolution cross-sectional images of the retina. It is analogous to
ultrasound B-scan imaging except that coherent light rather than sound waves is used in
order to obtain a much higher longitudinal resolution of approximately 10µm in the
retina.
Ocular Ultrasound
The eye can be further examined with ultrasound, employing the same principles used in fetal
ultrasound, although on a smaller scale. The sound delivered is reflected at different
tissue interfaces and the reflected beam is received by the transducer. The reflected sound
waves are analyzed to give further information about ocular structures. The transducer
itself may be placed directly on the eye, after topical anesthesia, or on the eyelid,
depending on the desired procedure.

The Cosmetic Surgery Scene in the Philippines
Cosmetic surgery is very affordable in the Philippines. The greater acceptance and growth of
cosmetic surgery among the general public has encouraged more doctors to enter this field.
In the Philippines however, any licensed medical doctor can perform any kind of cosmetic
surgery without legal impediment. Any doctor can label himself or herself as a "cosmetic
surgeon". Ideally, cosmetic surgeons should have formal training in plastic and
reconstructive surgery. However, there are cosmetic surgeons who have no formal surgical
training at all. Other cosmetic surgeons may have training in another surgical specialty
(general surgery, ENT, OB-Gyne, or ophthalmology). Then there are cosmetic surgeons whose
training is in a non-surgical specialty, such as dermatology, family practice or internal
medicine. A common example is the injection of substances onto the nose in order to have the
effect obtained by a surgical noselift. A number of patients have suffered complications
from having silicone oil or paraffin wax injected onto their noses. Why do patients allow
themselves to be injected? The main reason is the very low cost of nasal injections. The
cost of nasal injections is from P7,000 to P10,000, ( around $ 125 to $178 )as compared to a
surgical noselift which will cost from P20,000 to P30,000 ($357 to $536).
Some doctors offer breast or penis augmentation by sucking fat from the abdomen, thighs or
buttocks and injecting the fat onto the breast or penis. This kind of surgery is not
effective at all and may lead to infection and the formation of pus or abscesses in the
recipient areas. Other practitioners advertise the use of endermologie or other techniques
to remove stretch marks in the abdomen when in actuality, no treatment has been proven to
actually remove these stretch marks. Some doctors solicit the endorsement of
television/movie stars and delude the public into equating such advertisements as proof of
their surgical "expertise". Various organizations are formed to "certify" cosmetic surgeons
and some consumer awards for the best cosmetic surgeons are merely organized promotions by
private companies which winners pay for.
Patients considering cosmetic surgery should know that choosing the right surgeon is the
single most important decision they will make. Be sure to have all the facts you need in
order to make an informed judgement. The training and experience of your cosmetic surgeon is
the most important factor in the success of your surgery.

Cosmetic Surgery Center of Asia
Cosmetic Surgery Center of Asia is a one-stop Plastic Surgery clinic, conveniently located in Mactan Island, Metro Cebu, Philippines, minutes from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. It has its own self-standing operating room/theater, equipped with the most modern plastic surgery equipments. Cosmetic Surgery Center of Asia is a private corporation fully owned by Dr. Alfonso Y. Amores, FACS and Luz V. Amores, RN, BSN. The Center is fully dedicated to the practice of cosmetic surgery. All surgeries/operations are performed by Dr. Amores.
Breast Enlargement
Breast enlargement (augmentation mammoplasty) is a very common procedure at the Clinic. Enlargement is done through the use of either saline-filled or silicone gel-filled implants (injections using silicone and other materials are extremely dangerous, and are not medically accepted procedures!). The procedure is done under local anesthesia with the assistance of a qualified anesthesiologist who manages the sedative medications and to monitor the patient all throughout the procedure.
EyeBag Removal
Eye bag is one of the early signs of ageing. Upper eyelid eye bags are mainly due to sagging of skin and the thin muscle underneath it. Lower eyelid eye bags are mainly due to bulging of the fat pad inside the eye socket. Removal of eye bags (blepharoplasty) is therefore removal of these structures. The operation is done under local anesthesia (much like going to the dentist) at the Center. After a short recovery period, the patient goes home or to the hotel.
FaceLift
Facelift is designed to reverse the migration path of the fat pads and to the skin sag that goes along with it. The surgery is a very delicate procedure that is best performed by a fully trained plastic surgeon. It is performed here at the Clinic under local anesthesia. A qualified anesthesiologist is present at all times to ensures proper sedation/comfort for the patient. After a short recovery period, the patient goes home or to the hotel.
Fat & Other injections
These injection procedure come in the general category of "filler injections". As the name implies, it is intended to fill in well-defined depressed areas of the body (used especially in the face). My personal choice for most defects is fat (harvested from the patient). For finer lines, I use the more modern artificial materials (such as Dermalive™).
Liposuction
Liposuction is a delicate procedure that needs the skill of a properly trained plastic surgeon. It is commonly done in the Clinic under local anesthesia. The most common misconception regarding liposuction is that it is for removal of fat in order to reduce the weight. Liposuction is never intended for weight reduction. It is a true "contouring" surgery were specific deformities due to a fat bulge is removed.
Nose Lift
Nose lift (augmentation rhinoplasty) is surgery to modify the appearance of the Oriental (Asian) nose. It is generally done to modify the typical low-profile bridge by using carved silicone implants (silicone injection is extremely dangerous and is not an accepted medical procedure!); and to narrow the nostril base.
Tummy tuck
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is surgery/operation done to correct the deformities following full-term pregnancy(s). It is basically a two-step procedure: 1) repair of the stretched wall (muscle and attachments) of the abdomen, and 2) removal of the overstretched skin below the belly button (generally ravaged by stretch marks).
